Castello di Amorosa is worth booking for its unusually elaborate Tuscan-style castle setting as much as for the wine; choose Diamond Estate Tour & Wine Tasting for the fullest first visit, or a Reserve Tasting if you mainly want photos and a shorter stop.
Reserve directly before arriving
Every visitor, including non-drinkers, needs a timed reservation to pass the gate; book the exact product and time through Castello’s official reservation system, especially for weekends and September–October.

The 110-minute Diamond Estate Tour reaches the production areas, dungeon, armory and torture chamber that self-guided tasting access does not include.

Castello di Amorosa is a working Napa Valley winery at 4045 St. Helena Highway in Calistoga, built as a deliberately authentic-looking 14th-century Tuscan-style castle rather than a historic European structure. Conceived by fourth-generation vintner Dario Sattui, construction began in 1994, took 15 years, and the winery opened in 2007. Its unusually large castle complex includes 107 rooms across underground and above-ground levels, with towers, moat and drawbridge, chapel, armory, torture chamber, courtyards, wine caves and production areas.
This is one of Napa’s most theatrical winery visits: come for the castle architecture, atmospheric underground rooms and an actual wine program centered on Cabernet Sauvignon, Italian-influenced reds, Sangiovese and sweet sparkling La Fantasia. The guided tour is most distinctive because it reaches the cellar, armory and torture chamber; self-guided tastings suit visitors who mainly want photographs and a shorter five-wine experience. Skip it if themed architecture, crowds, admission-style winery reservations or a retail-oriented tasting experience are not appealing; it is not a picnic or lunch stop.
Before you go
Yes. Reservations are required for every person entering the property, including non-drinkers and children; there is no free drive-up castle viewing. Book directly through Castello’s reservation page: https://castellodiamorosa.com/tour-tasting2. At the Highway 29 gate, show your email confirmation. For tours, arrive at least 15 minutes early; reservations are guaranteed only until 20 minutes after check-in time.
For a first visit, book the adults-only Diamond Estate Tour & Wine Tasting ($75 plus tax): it lasts about 110 minutes and includes guided access to upper castle areas, production spaces, underground dungeon, armory and torture chamber, followed by a five-wine tasting. For a shorter visit, choose the 75-minute Standing Reserve Tasting ($45) or Seated Reserve Tasting ($60), each with five selections and self-guided access to the principal visitor levels. The Cheese & Charcuterie Wine Pairing Tour is $115 and lasts about two hours. Online bookings add a flat $4.95 fee per booking. Official booking: https://castellodiamorosa.com/tour-tasting2
Yes, but they still need a reservation. Children/non-drinking minors cost $25 and receive grape juice; they must be accompanied by an adult. Under-21s cannot join a shared guided tour, although they can join a private guided tour booked for their group. Strollers are not allowed inside. Details: https://castellodiamorosa.com/faq
It is open daily by reservation, currently 10:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Hours and reservations: https://shop.castellodiamorosa.com/product/Google-Pack. Do not rely on walk-in access, even during stated opening hours.
Book as soon as your Napa dates are firm, especially for Friday–Sunday visits and September–October harvest season. If your preferred time is unavailable, check another time or weekday on Castello’s official calendar, then call the reservation office at 707-967-6272; do not assume third-party tours have independent castle availability. Changes and refunds are allowed until 24 hours before the visit; within 24 hours, they are not available. Official terms: https://castellodiamorosa.com/tour-tasting2
Allow 75–90 minutes for a standing or seated reserve tasting, about two hours for the Diamond Estate Tour, 2–2¼ hours for the cheese-and-charcuterie tour, and about 2½ hours for Cabernet Is King. Add at least 15 minutes before a tour for gate entry and check-in, plus 15–30 minutes afterward for shopping or arranging transport. Avoid scheduling another winery less than 30 minutes after a guided visit starts.
