Swimming

Hazards: Ocean swimming on the Long Beach Peninsula is not advised. Primary hazards are cold-water shock, rip currents, sneaker waves, high surf, tide squeeze on the small beach, and tsunami risk. Stay well above the active wash zone and away from drift logs in surf. No Waikiki-specific jellyfish or shark advisory is published; they are not the principal documented risk.

The beach: Small sandy pocket beach beneath cliffs; usable sand narrows markedly at high tide, and rough surf can push close to the seawall/cliff-side edge.
Surf: Pacific surf influenced by the exposed cape, Columbia River-bar conditions and changing tides. Conditions can turn forceful quickly; high tide and storms substantially reduce usable beach. Winter and late-fall storms bring the largest, most dramatic surf, while summer can be better for walking but remains unsuitable for casual swimming.
Rentals: No verified Waikiki Beach rentals; do not expect chairs, umbrellas, boards, kayaks or beach gear.
Food: No verified food service at Waikiki Beach. Bring water and food; park concessions are listed generally but not confirmed at the beach.

Rules: Dogs are allowed but must be leashed (maximum 8 feet) and waste must be cleaned up. Fires are only allowed in designated areas and may be restricted by burn bans; do not assume the beach is a legal fire site. Alcohol is limited to designated campground and picnic areas. Fireworks are prohibited. Cannabis is not allowed in public state-park spaces. Glass bottles and metal cans are prohibited on designated swimming beaches; avoid bringing glass.
