About 8 hours
Main Street and Marquette Park45 min
Buy ferry tickets directly from the operator online; arrive at the mainland dock about 15 minutes before your desired sailing.
Rent or collect a conventional bicycle near downtown20 min
Do not assume a standard e-bike is permitted; use a conventional bike unless you have required approval.
Ride counterclockwise on M-185/Lake Shore Boulevard120 min
The mostly flat 8.2-mile shoreline circuit is the island’s highest-return first ride.
British Landing30 min
Pause for the cannon, Mackinac Bridge view, rocky shore, picnic tables, and water break.
Continue the east-shore section of the perimeter route75 min
Keep riding rather than turning back through downtown; the outer shore is much quieter.
Arch Rock detour45 min
Take the uphill detour only if comfortable with steep terrain; otherwise view it via a carriage-tour plan.
Return to downtown waterfront45 min
Leave time for food, fudge, and the ferry queue; summer weekend and late-return sailings can be busy.
Downtown Mackinac Island
The island’s only practical base and the arrival area for both ferry companies. It has the historic Main Street waterfront, restaurants, lodging, bike rentals, carriage services, Marquette Park, and immediate access to Fort Mackinac and the shoreline circuit.
British Landing
A worthwhile stop rather than an overnight base, roughly halfway around the perimeter ride. It has a cannon, Mackinac Bridge views, rocky shoreline, picnic tables, and a useful rest stop.
British Landing rocky shore
Best treated as a scenic shoreline and picnic stop, with bridge views, rather than a swimming beach. Mackinac Island’s shores are generally rocky; Lake Huron is cold, can be wavy, and has currents.
